Don't let them go ferritin' Jenni!Scared

It probably means they'll test the Ferritin level in your blood.
Depending on whether it's low or high it can tell them what type of anaemia you are suffering from.
Good luck.

They'll either treat you with one or two little pills or give it via injection. As you don't take many pills RollEyes (ho hum) this may well be the best option. Actually, I didn't care for the injections much. Lots of love xxx

Ah yes, Ferritin levels! Had a few of those tests done in my time and nice little iron pills to follow closely behind the results! How on earth have you managed to escape anaemia for this long? Do let me in on the secret (so long as it's not 'hot' or foreign food Scared )!

Good luck

Hi Jenni,

My Ferratin levels were extremely low sometime ago now, I was put on a course of Iron for 6-12 months if I can remember rightly. You do not realise how tired and unwell you can feel until you start taking Iron then you can move mountains so to speak. Smile

Hope you pick up soon.

Hi Jenni

I have always been anaemic - HB down to 7 on occasion. Even though it is 9-10 now, for me fairly good, my ferritin levels were zero. They do this blood test to distinguish between iron deficiency anaemia and anaemia of chronic disease which most with RA have at some point. I had an iron infusion recently (Ferinject) which only took 15 mins for 700mg to go in as opposed to hours infusion last time - progress! I dont absorb iron well orally due to coeliac.

Hope you get sorted soon...

Take care,
Love Lizxx

Just wondering how you are doing Jenni as I haven't seen you on here for a few days and I know things were really bad for you. I hope things are improving, but good or bad please keep us updated. x

Hi Naomi and all

Ive not been on here as we've been through a hell of a lot again, our middle child is very troubled with mental health things. She went missing from the special unit last week for 5 days and was found but not unharmed and so we went to support her with forensic examination etc.

Ra wise.... I'm on tonnes of morphine

I start enbrel next week
It should arrive on Friday

The ferritin levels were ok actually on the high side but the thyroid was low
They are testing me for wheat allergy because every 3 days I 'go' with accompanying pain.

Plus my poo smells like perming lotion!

Too much information!
On the plus side
The community matron has been and been a real help.

Will do a separate post about her roles because I think others might find the info handy.
